44) Why should I do orthomolecular therapies when I'm already getting normal anti-cancer treatments?

45) Why would I want to do anything else but just live my life?
According to my doctor, if I eat normally, I should get all the nutrients that I need. So why take food supplements at all?
In principle what your doctor says is true.  However, these days, our diet only provides us with the minimum  to sustain health.  Extensive food processing has greatly reduced the quality of the things we eat, so a normal diet is no guarantee. Additionally, we are exposed to a multitude of external factors that potential detrimental effects on our immune system. For this reason, the recommended daily allowances are barely sufficient to maintain good health.
After the basic treatment sessions I'm considering only doing chelation therapy once every 6 months or so; does that make sense?
Not really. The best way to ensure lasting benefit from Chelation Therapy is by doing a maintenance treatment once a month. Skipping occasionally due to sickness, vacation, etc. is no real problem, as long as you generally follow the once-a-month regime.
Can't I just do Chelation Therapy at home? My sister is a nurse and she can insert the IV.
No. Chelation Therapy always has to be administered under the supervision of a physician.
Can't I just do Chelation Therapy without having to quit smoking?
In principle, you can continue smoking,  however, the effectiveness of the treatment may be greatly reduced. So we ask our patients to at least have the intention to stop smoking. You only have one life, one body, and you only get one chance. So get everything out of the treatment that you can.
Certain products cause an anaphylactic response. Is there a cure?
Yes.   Enzyme-potentiated desensitization ( EPD ) is a responsible and effective way of lessening the severity of life-threatening symptoms.
Do I need to ask my doctor for permission if I consider doing Chelation Therapy?
No. It is your choice and personal right to do Chelation Therapy. Your doctor or specialist has no authority to stop you from doing anything.
Do I need to discontinue all my conventional medication in order to be able to undergo Chelation Therapy?
No. You will need to continue your medicines until the Chelation Therapy shows positive results. Only then, and in conjuction with your specialist, will cutting back or discontinuation of your medication be considered.
Does everyone in the industrialized world have raised toxin levels in their bodies?
Probably.  However, some people experience illness or symptoms from these, while others don't.
Does my medical insurance cover the Amsterdam Kliniek’s consultations and treatment procedures?

This depends on your insurance company. Numerous ones will cover at least part of our treatment costs. There are a couple of private policies that cover almost everything we do. Dr. Boeken is a member of the Maatschappij ter Bevordering van de Orthomoleculaire Geneeskunde (MBOG). You may want to mention this when inquiring with your insurance company, since our membership with the MBOG may make reimbursement more likely.

Does the Amsterdam Kliniek work according to the COTG rates?
No, the Amsterdam Kliniek is not bound by the COTG rate system.
How do you determine what vitamins a person should use? They are very expensive and I need to stay within my budget.
Sick or healthy, everyone should be using basic food supplements. These don’t need to be very expensive at all. Additionally, it is possible to expand beyond the basics, as dictated by lifestyle, health status and personal preference.
How do you go about identifying the metals or other toxins in my body and how long does it take to get rid of them?
We perform a urine challenge test in order to measure the presence of toxins. Based on the outcome of this test, a treatment plan is drawn up. Depending on the level of pollution and the speed with which the body responds to treatment, levels may be back to normal as soon as 5 weeks after starting the treatment.
I don't want to use vitamin C because I'm told that it causes kidney stones.
This is an old wife's tale. In very rare instances vitamin C can stimulate the formation of kidney stones, but this seldom occurs.
I have almost constant nausea, dizziness, and I feel extremely tired. I’m in a constant fog. My doctor can’t find anything wrong with me. Can you help?
Yes. Your problem may be in your diet.
I know someone who does oral Chelation Therapy with pills. So why in the world should I spend all this time and money on an IV when I can simply take a pill at home?
Effective oral Chelation Therapy does not exist. The problem with oral Chelation Therapy is that EDTA is broken down in the stomach and thus never reaches the circulatory system to do its job. Manufacturers who claim they have an oral chelation preparation generally don't have much more to show for than a fancy multivitamin. No matter what they say, EDTA intravenously is the only powerful way to chelate.
I seem to always get anxiety attacks during or after eating certain food or drinking certain beverages. My GP can’t find anything wrong with me and thinks I should see a psychologist. Could this be caused by food allergies?
Yes. Although often unrecognized by conventional doctors, emotional complaints may be brought on or stimulated by certain foods.
I understand that any treatment for allergies or intolerances takes years to have any effect.
This is not true. Many people experience an improvement within the first 6 months, some even after only a couple of days.
I was told Chelation Therapy creates kidney problems.
This is not true. Anybody who wishes to do Chelation Therapy will first undergo a blood test for basic kidney function screening. Based on the results of this screening, a safe concentration of the active ingredients in the infusion is determined and administered.
I'm allergic to my cat. If I wish to start treatment, do I need to get rid of my pet first?
Not necessarily. Depending on the type of treatment that is most suitable for you, you do not have to get rid of your pet.
I've already been on a Candida/hypoglycemia/gluten-free or other restrictive diet, but I haven't improved at all. So food must not be a reason for my fatigue.
False. General diets may not work because they are too broad. The only way to find out is by doing an individualized food test after which a tailor-made diet will be created for you.
I've already been on a Candida/hypoglycemia/gluten-free or other restrictive diet, but have not improved at all. My problem clearly does not lie with food.
False. All these diets, although restrictive, are general diets. As a basis, the Amsterdam Kliniek only prescribes tailor-made diet plans based on individual test results.
I've already done a food allergy test in the hospital that didn't show anything. Does this mean that I don't have any problems in my diet?
No. Intolerances or hidden food sensitivities don't show up in conventional blood tests.
If I do a food test and you find sensitivities, will I have to be on a diet for the rest of my life?
No. The diet is only a temporary thing. If allergies or intolerances don't go away during the diet, there is always the option of treatment.
If I have a high level of mercury in my body, what would the symptoms be?
You might experience fatigue, eczema, hypertension, emotional problems, allergies or a metallic taste, to name a few.
If you find an increase in certain toxins in my body, can something be done about this?
Yes. Through the use of food supplements and a specific injection treatment regime, these can be excreted via the urine.
Is it not dangerous to get intravenous vitamins, such as vitamin C?
Absolutely not. There are no dangerous side effects, like those from chemotherapy.
Is the Amsterdam Kliniek a private clinic?
No, the Amsterdam Kliniek is a medical practice.
Is there a way of treating Multiple Chemical Sensitivity ( MCS )?
Yes. EPD can be used in treating this debilitating condition.
I’ve heard of antioxidants. How do they benefit you? Is vitamin C the most effective one?
One of the most important functions of antioxidants is the fact that they block free radicals. Free radicals are very aggressive molecules that can damage the body in numerous ways. Vitamin C is still considered one of the stronger antioxidants around.
I’ve heard that a new double-blind study on the effectiveness of Chelation Therapy is currently underway in the U.S. Will this settle the argument once and for all? And why hasn’t there been a double blind study before now?
Many trials have been done that were not recognized by conventional medicine because they considered the trials to be too small. Because conventional medicine did not want to be involved in these studies, there was a lack of money to set up larger trials. The current study, set up by The National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the US and thus executed at a much larger scale, should settle any dispute about the efficacy of Chelation Therapy.
My 4-year-old daughter has a thick, crusty rash over 90% of her body. Nothing we have tried so far has had any effect. The entire family is suffering along with our daughter. According to our GP it is atopic eczema and nothing can be done about it. Is this true?
Many people with atopic conditions such as eczema turn out to be suffering from hidden food sensitivities. Once the offending foods have been identified and the diet has been adjusted, dramatic improvements can occur. So even when suffering from atopic complaints, it makes sense to look for food intolerances.
My doctor says I have to live with my food allergies and intolerances, because there is no cure.
This is not true. There are effective ways of treatment available.
My doctor says it's all between the ears.
This may be true in some, but most people can tell quite well whether something is psychological or not. If a person feels it's not between the ears, there's plenty of reason to keep on looking.
My doctor says people can die from Chelation Therapy. Is this true?
NOBODY has ever died from Chelation Therapy performed by doctors who work according to the ABCT/IBCMT protocols. It is important to consider the fact that more people have died during bypass surgery or angioplasty than have ever died from Chelation Therapy - not to mention those who never even made it to the operating room because they died while being on a waiting list.
My specialist says I should not combine my normal cancer treatment with food supplements. Is it dangerous to do so?
No. Some specialists simply oppose the use of food supplements out of ignorance.
Once I start, do I need to continue using Psorinovo for the rest of my life?
Psorinovo produces better long-lasting results if it is used non-stop. There are patients who discontinue treatment after a while. Chances are great that the symptoms will return. Quite often a very low maintenance dose is enough to remain symptom-free.
Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with my heart racing and in a pool of sweat. I’m way past menopause, but my GP thinks that it probably still has to do with that. Can it also have something to do with my food?
Quite often this is a sign of hypoglycemia, or a drop in blood sugar level, frequently seen in people suffering from food allergies and intolerances.
There is no one cure for ME that works for everybody.
This is absolutely true. Chronic fatigue syndrome is very complex and what works for one, may not necessarily work for another. If conventional testing has not led to anything, the least that should be done is eliminate immune-undermining factors such as food intolerances and damaging environmental impact.
We eat healthy, exercise regularly and live relatively normal and active lives. What do you offer that could improve on this?
You can improve on your condition through a tailor-made diet plan, the proper use of food supplements, the prevention of hardening of the arteries and removal of damaging toxic metals with targeted Chelation Therapy.
What are some of the toxins that are measured?
The most important ones are: lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, aluminum, tin, nickel and bismuth. Not every toxin has the same potentially harmful effect.
Why are quite a number of regular doctors so strongly against Chelation Therapy? If chelation really works, wouldn't they be offering it, too?
Unfortunately, the general view is that Chelation Therapy is not a proven method. Any trial showing the effectiveness of Chelation Therapy has so far been disregarded. The fact that many millions of Chelation treatments over the past decades have kept many patients from bypass surgery or leg amputations is called "a coincidence" and categorized as "spontaneous recovery" by regular medicine.
Why does my dermatologist not prescribe Psorinovo if it really is that effective?
In the past a different kind of fumaric acid, which caused numerous side-effects such as flushing and diarrhoea, was administered. This made dermatologists reticent to use fumaric acid, including the improved version called Psorinovo.
Why does my specialist not put me on any specific diet?
Because most specialists do not think that diet or food has any influence on cancer or the immune system. The orthomolecular view, on the other hand, is "you are what you eat."
Why should I do orthomolecular therapies when I'm already getting normal anti-cancer treatments?
First of all, orthomolecular medicine enhances conventional treatment. Secondly, patients often experience fewer side effects from conventional treatments. And, last but not least, orthomolecular medicine can have anti-cancer effects on its own.
Why would I want to do anything else but just live my life?
You don't need to do anything extra if you don't want to. We figure that since you only have one life to live, and if there are ways of improving the quality and length of that life, why not do so?
